It seems like the mainstream media has finally caught up – not everyone who gets caught by Google is a spammer who gets his just deserts.
MetaFilter was apparently dying a slow and painful death as a result of Google Panda updates. And, I'm sad to say that a small part of me smiled.
Am I happy to see a small business suffer? Hell.
Do I want MetaFilter to suffer? Again. Hell.
But, with the decline of MetaFilter, the mainstream media attention is focused on Panda. The traditional media that – until now – had their heads in the sand, happily completing the Google Propaganda . Creaking croc, line and lead that any business hit by a Google penalty is a spammer – someone caught up in this scammy SEO – and deserves all that they get.
I feel like someone who has been waging war on everyone outside of our proverbial "SEO country" has been unconscious until now. But with the success of MetaFilter, everyone is starting to notice that there are innocent victims of this war. And this war is called Panda.
But as the publications continued to publish, I noticed something disturbing.
Some publications almost treated MetaFilter as a curiosity.
report on the situation as if a quality site was affected was an unusual situation
And they Called for Justice
For MetaFilter .
MetaFilter is no different than tens of thousands of other small and good small businesses that fire their employees – some even closing their doors – as a result of Google's Panda Filter as judge, jury and executioner. They have also been blindly and unfairly thrown on an island and no one can hear their requests for help.

Traditional media should not ask forgiveness for MetaFilter without also We should not ignore a large portion of small business owners who have suffered the same fate – but without being able to have the same recourse.
The special treatment and the partiality of the justice for the "marks and celebrities the brities of the web" whereas the ordinary people continue to support the needs of stop.
What the traditional media miss when they come to Panda
Some Google sanctions are quite easy to understand (and find guilt for the reception website).
Rap Genius received a manual penalty for performing a link pattern . The famous BMW manual penalty in 2006 was to hide in a way that openly tried to manipulate Google's algorithm
Many manual penalties and penguins result from A shaded link (old or current) construction tactics that were employed by the website owner or their hires (no matter how much wrong attempt to claim the negative SEO as the cause). Although Penguin can also generate false positives – and there is such a thing as negative SEO – with Penguin there is at least one clear cause (bad links – however they did get there) as to why you have was affected
article in The Washington Post attempted to delve a little deeper into MetaFilter's share of their mess:
As far as Google is responsible for the fall from MetaFilter, MetaFilter can also be responsible: It just has not evolved to follow the rest of the Web … Meanwhile, MetaFilter has not moved eggs outside the Google cart even though this basket has become smaller. The site has no presence on Facebook or Twitter; Obviously, he did not really try to overtake his main audience
and that's true to a certain extent. Website owners are responsible for keeping in touch with their audience – and if they want its traffic – Google. If MetaFilter had focused on building other traffic streams, the loss of its Google ranking might not have put it in danger of closing its doors.
The article mentions in another section:
The site is wobbly, old-school navigation – not to mention its throwback interface – requires a FAQ section several dozens of questions . The most interesting basic features of MetaFilter, such as its discussion forums and question-and-answer functions, have been cannibalized by more usable sites like Reddit and Quora
A site falling in the rankings because it's becoming less popular because it refuses to evolve its development and marketing strategies towards the web today. hui (that they can overcome with a redesign or a new interface) is one thing – it is the natural order
But this was not the case here . They fell because they provided a "false positive" for spam that the Panda filter is trying to catch and they are screwed into Google until they escape this filter (or until Google excludes them from the filter to avoid media coverage). And no "updated look" or "new interface" or Twitter tracking will correct that.
And what did they do to get caught in Panda? That is the question that small business owners have been asking since their launch in 2011.
Panda is a different type of penalty
23 questions we might ask ourselves if we saw our site obliterated in an update of Panda The questions are generic and widespread – and based on all Panda penalties that I've seen, are as useful as e a radiator in a desert with regard to the location of the ac
In fact, in almost every SERP, you will see a site that breaks almost every row of guides and then meets another Panda hit that conforms to almost all. And only three "ask questions" (# 4, # 15 and # 18) even apply remotely to ecommerce sites – which, in my experience, are one of the types of sites that seem to have the most difficulty with Panda.
Look – there is so much unique and insightful content that you can create on a pair of black socks in size 3-11. E-commerce stores are distinguished from their competitors by factors such as pricing, speed and cost of shipping, customer service, selection, return policies and convenience. And none of these elements is taken into account by Google in its algorithm.
Panda sits in a judicial system without appeal
Panda judges a site based on a mathematical calculation and decides whether he is guilty or not. innocent and take your sentence. But you have no idea of the crime you have committed. You too have never had to take a stand. And you have no opportunity to appeal. (Note from the traditional media: Requests for reconsideration apply only to manual penalties.)
